What are hydrofoils?

A hydrofoil is a watercraft that uses wings to ‘lift’ it out of the water. This allows the craft to reach high speeds and makes for a very smooth ride. Hydrofoils are most commonly used on boats, but they can also be used on personal watercraft like jet skis.

Hydrofoils work by using the Bernoulli principle. This principle states that when fluid (in this case, water) flows around an object, the areas of the object where the fluid moves faster will have less pressure than the areas where the fluid moves more slowly. The faster-moving fluid creates a ‘lift’ that helps to support the object.

Why are they better than boats?

Hydrofoils are becoming popular because they offer a much smoother ride than traditional boats. They’re also more efficient, so they use less fuel. And because they don’t require deep water to operate, they can be used in shallower waters than boats.

In addition, hydrofoils are faster than boats. They can reach speeds of up to 60 miles per hour, and some hydrofoils can even go faster than that!
