2008 USA-WS INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR
USA Water Ski (USA-WS) honored Bryan Schumacher for Innovator of the Year award. USA-WS received nominations from all sports disciplines for this award, and selected Bryan as the award winner for 2008.
Schumacher is a dedicated individual who works hard to advance the sport of hydrofoiling through development of new gear such as wings and boards through Xtreme Foils. His never-ending support of hydrofoiling extends from products and his Extreme Foil team to starting foilforum.com.
MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Al is one of the great professional riders in hydrofoiling, who has been with the sport over 10 years, and has really progressed in the sport this year. He has pushed his level in technical tricks, and received 7th Overall at USHA Nationals in Denver, Colorado with an outstanding run including a front flip floater, an Oreo, and a multitude of combos.
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
MJ continues to be one of the top women riders in hydrofoiling and was the first women to land an air front flip in competition at the USHA Nationals in Denver Colorado. She has assisted with the progression of the sport through breaking new records – 6 sinker combo, holding clinics in Minnesota, participating as Vice President on the USHA Board, and encouraging women in the sport to work hard and push themselves to new levels.
JUNIOR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Dominic continues to top his class, and is one of the next rising stars in hydrofoiling with his great attitude and stylish trick runs in competition. Dominic received 1st place in Jump Out, 2nd place in Free Ride and Tricks to receive 2nd Overall at USHA Nationals in Denver Colorado.
AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR
Bryan gives his time for the entire hydrofoil community through working on new products (Xtreme Foils), community web site (FoilForum.com), judging, scoring system, a key competitor at USHA Nationals in 2008. Bryan has taken his riding to new altitude (“height”) this year and is ultimately willing to help out where he can.
TEAM OF THE YEAR
Rocky Mountain Hydrofoil Club (Andy Jorgensen and Alison Goin)
This team created this year’s and last year’s USHA Nationals implementing the USHA new scoring and judging, and successfully completed such a huge undertaking. The Rocky Mountain Hydrofoil club is a friendly, open, considerate team of great hosts and one of the hardest working teams in hydrofoiling!
MOST IMPROVED FEMALE
Alison Goin is very motivated and determined athlete. She has worked from no inverts to 5 flips in one year with good form and height! At Nationals, she consistently landed her inverts and took 1st place Overall in the Novice Women’s Division. Alison also spends a huge amount of her time participating on the USHA board, organizing USHA Nationals, getting certified as a trained driver, and more!
MOST IMPROVED MALE
Justin has gone from barely skiing to performing 6 inverts and even attempting front flips! This is amazing improvement for a skier in one year. He also volunteers his time by announcing and helping with USHA Nationals, and designing the Havasu Fly-in t-shirts. Justin stepped it up at the Nationals Competition, and came away with to take 4th place Overall in the Novice Men’s Division.
MOST IMPROVED JUNIOR
Cayce is a young rider with a great attitude and ambition. She has stepped up her riding and competed with the men in the Immediate class to receive 4th place Overall in that Division. She is throwing almost as many inverts as anyone in the sport and pushing the limits for all women hydrofoilers.
BEST SUPPORTING MEMBER
Todd has been known as “Mr. Everything for USHA Nationals” or “Mr. Behind the Scenes”. He graciously helps out with USHA Nationals or other events, cheers on other riders, true supporter of the support, not only his wife, but many foilers who care to ride behind his boat. Go ROCKY!
